Nap Time

I went out to catch the kids on a warm sunny day and could only see the big mares (Bre and Josey). I started to panic because Tari and Dickie recently led a jail break down to the main busy road. They my eyes focused near some tree stumps and I realized that two stumps were actually horses. Dickie was happy to share his nap time with me.

Not a brush pile.

Are you bringing the treats to me?

Still such a baby face.

Road kill

They can't both be dead, right?
Putting on the cute face to get treats.
What a big tongue to lick you with.
Mule or horse?

Tari photo bombing.

Let's go back to sleep and not work, Ok?

  1. Love the photos! Laying down horses are my absolute favorite, probably because I rarely get to see Shy lay and probably because horses usually have to trust you to keep laying when you are near.
Did I ever say how cute Dickie is? So freaking adorable!!!

    1. Bre used to let me walk to up her and cuddle with her. She stopped doing it once I had her out with a group. I think she is nervous when other horses start walking up to her. Dickie on the other hand isn't threatened by the other horses. They spoil him rotten and let him to whatever he wants. He seemed happy to have all the mares surrounding him and me petting his face.

    1. I went to catch Romeo and he was all up and perky. Then I turned around a few minutes later and he was sprawled out flat like road kill. I thought he was sick until I noticed the horse next ot him was dead too.

  3. Adorable! So jealous - I never see my mare lay down, but know she does by the evidence left behind :)

    1. Do you go out at lunch time? When I was at a stable wiht a larger herd there was always a certain time when the horses would nap. It always seemed to be between ten and noon.

  4. Those picture are sooo cute! I wish Chrome would let me approach him when he's napping, but he always jumps up when he hears me thinking that I'm about to start dishing out feed. Oh well.

Oh and almost forgot the road kill picture cracked me up! It always freaked me out when I was a kid to see the horses laying down because I always thought they were dead! :)

    1. Dickie is so entitled. I had a grain can to bribe Bre (she was made at me for cleaning her leg). He didn't worry for a second that he might miss out. He just patiently waited for me to bring the snack to him. He got to nap, be hand fed, and get a rub down, all without getting up.
